Flyer: How to…(duotone)

PHOTOSHOP

Duotone:

  • make sure in RGB
  • image – mode – grayscale – not just desaturate
  • image – mode – duotone – duotone option
  • click on white – color libraries (pantone, trumatch, toyo) – +solid coated or +solid uncoated or pantone plus (pantone metallic exists too)
  • using uncoated paper
  • select color – duotone
  • use process black and this color only

OR

  • pick two pantone colors.
  • from 5 to 100%
  • duotone curve
  • adjust the mixture of colors 
  • ok

image size

flatten image – save it

SAVE AS TIFF or EPS

Flyer: Steps to Remember

Illustrator:

  • delete swatches
  • File color mode
  • color – options – grayscale
  • decimal points in cmyk

Strokes:

  • line is certain points
  • expand line
  • or
  • object – path – outline stroke
  • need it to be solid shapes

Make compound paths

Clean swatches:

  • no extra colors
  • artboards

Print:

  • setup
  • printer settings
  • color mode – black and white

Photoshop:

  • flatten final tiff and label layers – should be locked and say background

InDesign:

  • call background layer – background fill
  • fill = swatch of color
  • or layer called – shapes – not in vector layer
  • rotate shapes in illustrator – not indesign.
  • slug – indicate size of print – dimensions
  • dimension: A4 or 40mmx30mm (scaled 75%) < only needs to go on Page 1

When working with Duotone:

ILLUSTRATOR

  • swatches, options, open swatch library, color books, use right colour library, numbers need to be identical, use exactly the same spot color
  • only use those in swatches. 
  • new color swatch add
  • black square is 4 comic
  • spot color has a square with a dot in it.
  • PACKAGE 
  • 1 process, 1 spot color
  • OR
  • 0 process, 2 spot colors
